Common Configuration
Common Configuration (schema) defines the entities that are shared by every project in the COS network: object types, attributes, user profiles, and security policies. The common configuration is replicated to all servers and all databases in the COS network. This means that all libraries and projects have the same attributes and object types.
Ideally, there is only one configuration (one root server) per organization. This makes administration easier as changes need to be done in one place only. However, different projects might have different needs, and the decision whether to create multiple COS networks depends on the situation.
If there are only slight differences in different projects, a single configuration is recommended. The differing attributes can then be grouped into easily manageable sets with attribute dependencies, for example.
A separate configuration might be needed, for example, when combining parts from libraries of two or more companies for a joint project. Because the original projects do not include all the necessary attributes, a separate configuration and library for the joint project might be easier to set up than integrating all the configurations into one.
